The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has officially rolled out to additional owners of the HTC One M7 in the U.S., and an update for the One M8 is imminent. Both rollouts for the handset are on the AT&T network.

AT&T has officially rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to users of the HTC One M7 on its network. Just days ago, Mo Versi of HTC announced on Twitter that technical approval has been granted for the device, tweeting: "AT&T HTC One (M7) Owners! Great news, we've received technical approval on Lollipop OS. OTA will start tomorrow. Thank you for your patience."

Users began receiving the update on March 31, but what about owners of the HTC One M8? Reports state that the Android Lollipop update for the handset will roll out for AT&T on April 6.

HTC is currently preparing for the imminent release of its new flagship smartphone, the HTC One M9. Preorders have already begun at carriers and retailers, and the device is slated to be released on April 10.

When HTC made the announcement of its "Uh Oh" year-long free replacement program for the HTC One M9 on March 18. Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC Americas, expressed his frustration with the delayed release of the updates on AT&T, suggested it was the carrier's fault and promised that the update would hit the HTC One M8 and One M7 on AT&T by the end of March. With it now being April, it seems that, while he was a little late on his promise, the company has ultimately come through.

AT&T has stepped it up recently in terms of releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop updates after being roundly criticized for lagging behind its competitors. The company recently released Lollipop updates for Samsung's flagship phablet the Galaxy Note 4, along with its predecessor, the Note 3. The company still has not released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy S5, however, remaining the only major carrier not to do so.
