Sprint has officially released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 Sport on its network, and users of the smartphone should be receiving their update soon.

Samsung is preparing for the imminent release of its brand new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The devices are now well into the preorder phase, with all major carriers, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular taking orders while large retailers such as Walmart, Target, Amazon and Best Buy have followed suit. The smartphones will ship running the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS out of the box.

Most of the major carriers have already updated Samsung's former flagship smartphone the Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0 Lollipop, although AT&T and U.S. Cellular customers are still awaiting the update. Now, carriers are turning to the variants of the S5 series, including the S5 Mini, S5 Active and S5 Sport. The S5 Active has already received the update in some European territories, while Samsung's regional arms in Europe's Nordic region just confirmed the eventual availability of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the S5 Mini, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 2.

Now, another very specific Galaxy S5 variant in the U.S. is set to receive an Android Lollipop 5.0 update. The Galaxy S5 Sport, Sprint's version of the more rugged Galaxy S5 Active, is set to receive the update, which has officially begun rolling out, according to the company. The S5 Sport is only available on the Sprint network, and though it resembles the S5 Active in most ways, is a bit different externally. The Sport is somewhat less bulky and color options on Sprint's variant differ.

Though Sprint has announced the update and it is officially available for those who want to download the software, the rollout has caused various issues for owners of the AT&T Galaxy Note 4.
