Users of the Galaxy S5, Samsung's popular former flagship smartphone, have been reporting serious performance issues with the device after upgrading to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

As Samsung's prepares for the release of its newest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, users of last year's version, the Galaxy S5, are experiencing various issues with the handset's performance since updating their devices to the new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

While the new OS comes in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge out of the box, three of the four major carriers, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, have recently issued OTA (over the air) updates to the Galaxy S5. AT&T still hasn't released the update, much to the chagrin of its customers, but if they were aware of some of the many problems S5 owners who have received the updates are experiencing with their devices, they might consider themselves the lucky ones.

While many Galaxy S5 owners are happy with the update and report their phones running more smoothly than ever, a great number of S5 users are having issues. Besides flooding online forums with complaints, in recent articles on Tech Times regarding Android 5.0 Lollipop release information for the Galaxy S5 and on issues with the Galaxy Note 4 update, many S5 owners reached out in the comments to point out that their S5s are having problems with the new OS. Forced app closures, apps — especially contacts — crashing, heart rate sensor issues, overheating and battery drain are just some of the problems users are experiencing.

As we reported earlier, Verizon initiated the update back in February, then halted it without any official explanation, and recently relaunched the S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Ironically, the majority of complaints about the S5 update still seem to be originating from users of the device on the Verizon network.

Have you received the Android 5.0 lollipop update yet for your Samsung Galaxy S5, and are you experiencing any of these issues? Let us know in the comments below.
