U.S. Cellular has officially announced that it has released Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The update can be installed via OTA (over the air) or using Samsung Kies desktop software.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is the most significant update to Google's Android OS since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011. Lollipop brings with it an updated user interface, called "Material Design," which features grid-based layouts, Google Now-like cards, new animations and transitions and a design language that Google based off of paper and ink.

Android 5.0 Lollipop also offers a redesigned multitasking view that has a 3D design that allows users to see all of the applications currently opened, making it easier to access and close when compared with previous versions of Android. Google has also built in under the hood optimizations that focus on extending battery life and improving overall system performance.

We've been keeping you updated on the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update over the last couple of months. Verizon was the first major U.S. carrier to release Lollipop to its Galaxy S5 back in early February.

Sprint quickly followed suit by releasing its update for the Galaxy S5 a few days after Verizon, and T-Mobile pushed out its update for Samsung's previous flagship smartphone a few weeks later.

U.S. Cellular has become the fourth major U.S. carrier to release Android 5.0 Lollipop to its Galaxy S5, leaving AT&T as the only major carrier to not release the update yet.

If you own a U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy S5, you can get the update OTA or by using Samsung's Kies desktop software to install the new OS.
