More reports emerged that the Samsung's Galaxy S6 Active, the rugged variant of the S6, will be released through AT&T at some point this year.

If reports prove true, the S6 Active will include some of the features that were axed in the transition from the S5. The S6 Active is expected to include a card slot, water resistant build and a removable battery that will have a higher capacity than the one inside of the S6.

The SA active's dimensions will be 73.6 x 146.9 x 8.8 mm, slightly larger than those of the S6's dimensions of 70.5 x 143.4 x 6.8 mm, according to SamMobile. SamMobile also says it has confirmed that the Samsung G890, a device whose specs have been leaked, is in fact the S6 Active.

The rest of the S6 Active specs are expected to fall in line with those of the S6. The S6 Active is expected to have a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 16 MP rear camera and a 5 MP chat camera.

The G890, believed to be the S6 Active, has already passed Bluetooth certification. That doesn't necessarily mandate that the handset will be released this year, but it does indicate that the smartphone is one step closer to a release.

Over on Reddit, redditor garshol claims to have spent some time with the entire S6 family during a meeting with a Samsung representative. The redditor backed up reports indicating that the S6 Active will have a microSD card slot.

"The active models have always had a SD Slot. They concluded to continue with this," stated garshol about two weeks ago. "From what I saw on the Xcover 3, the S6 Active will also have a removable battery, and the Xcover 3 also gives you an idea of what the S6 Active will look like."

Along with chiming in on the S6 Active's rumored card slot, garshol also said the Samsung's latest series of smartphones was carefully planned to position the devices to take advantage of newer data speeds.

"The focus for Samsung at this point is to have devices ready for the speed on LTE Cat 6/7 in the near future," said garshol. "The importance of Handover on the mobile network is something they don't take lightly, and they are very very serious about optimizing the network connection on the devices themselves."

The redditor also alleges that the S6 and S6 Edge were nicknamed the "flat" and "edge" respectively.
