Apple has announced the date for WWDC, this year landing on June 8, and the event will be the place for a number of new Apple announcements.

Just what should we expect from the event, however? There are likely to be a number of new product announcements. Here are some of them.

1. iOS 9

Details about iOS 9 are likely to be announced at WWDC this year. While WWDC will not mark a release for the operating system, it does mark when developers will get together to discuss the future of the operating system. In fact, it will likely even be the event at which Apple announces the new operating system, as it has done over the past few years.

It's unclear what we will see in iOS 9, but it is likely that there will be a number of bug fixes. It's highly likely that iOS 9 will focus more on under-the-hood improvements rather than design changes.

2. Apple TV

Rumors about Apple TV have been floating around for a couple of months now, and it is very likely that WWDC will be the event at which these rumors will come to an end, with Apple TV likely getting new hardware with a smaller body and upgraded specs. This will be the first time that Apple has refreshed Apple TV in a number of years. It will also highlight Apple's growing interest in the living room since the company announced a partnership with HBO to bring HBO Now to Apple TV users earlier this year.

3. OS X

Apple usually announces its new desktop operating system at WWDC. Like iOS, it is unlikely that WWDC will be the place for the operating system to officially be released, however, an announcement is not the same thing as a release.

Like iOS, it is highly likely that OS X will focus more on functional improvements rather than design changes, especially because of the fact that OS X Yosemite, the current version of OS X brought a complete redesign of the operating system.

4. HomeKit

Apple announced HomeKit at WWDC last year, but since then, we haven't seen any official release or announcements from Apple. Developers have had a chance to work on HomeKit-related products and software, so perhaps we will see a HomeKit-related announcement from Apple this year. In fact, it is largely expected that HomeKit will be ready for the masses by WWDC this year.

5. An Apple Watch Update

While the Apple Watch has only just gone on sale to the public, that doesn't mean that Apple can't release an update. In fact, now that it's available to consumers, Apple might want to release an update. It is sure to have been working hard on the software, and it will have likely be a lot of feedback both from the public and developers.
