Samsung expects sales of its upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship devices will reach a skyrocketing record of over 70 million.

The company said that the current demand for both the flat and curved screen versions of the S6 exceeds their initial calculations, while analysts and investors predict that the devices will have a significant earnings momentum as soon as they go on a worldwide sale this month.

"The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are drawing positive responses," a Samsung executive said. "I have no doubt that they will be the biggest-sellers in the Galaxy series ever."

Samsung has made the new Galaxy devices available for preorder in certain target markets since April 10. Records show that the company reached an impressive 20 million preorders.

In a previous report by Tech Times, U.S. preorders of the two devices are said to be twice the number of preorders made for last year's Galaxy S5.

In Europe, the duo also showed a higher preorder status compared to its older sibling. One example is in Switzerland where preorders for the new flagship devices are four times higher than their predecessor's.

"We are back on track," said another Samsung executive.

Samsung believes that the curved screen S6 Edge model will generate a stronger demand than its flat-screened S6 sibling. Consumers may be willing to spend $120 more in order to enjoy an "enhanced viewing experience" from the curved S6's premium display.

It remains to be seen just how far Samsung will go in order to meet the expected demand surge of the two flagship devices. One issue that needs to be addressed is the production of the curved glass display, the yield of which is said to have dropped way below 50 percent.

"Although there may be some difficulties for the short term, we will do our utmost to secure enough supply for our global consumers," stated Samsung.

Samsung is regarded as the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, managing to stay on top for three straight years before losing the position to rival Apple after the Cupertino company released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Even so, Samsung said that its next flagship Galaxy device will be designed to compete against the iPhone 6. The group has placed high hopes that the device will turn around its earnings.

"The S6 should do well," said Kwon Oh-hyun, the company's vice chairman. "The first week looks impressive."
