Thanks to advanced technology, there are now plenty of options to make frequent trips to the dermatologist or salon a thing of the past.

We looked at 3 tools that make it easy and effective to achieve professional-level quality results without leaving home.

Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X

The first and only FDA-cleared hair removal laser for at-home use achieves effective, safe results, according to its web site. The laser offers permanent hair removal with its diode laser technology, which before home kits became available previously required visits to a dermatologist's office to disable the hair follice to get those results.

Treatment is simple, utilizing Tria's exclusive Pulse Counter and coordinating chart to provide the optimum number of pulses per body part. It's designed on the principle of selective photothermolysis: Beams of laser energy are absorbed by the dark pigment in hair and converted to heat, which disables the hair follicle, preventing it from growing new hair. This process is most effective on hair during the growth (anagen) phase. Applied to the face or body, it automatically emits a single laser pulse targeting the hair follicle. Lift and place the laser tip along the selected treatment area during each session, using the Pulse Counter to track the optimum number of pulses per treatment area. It has a 30-minute battery life.

When used once every other week, permanent results may be seen in as few as three months. Clinical studies demonstrated a 70 percent reduction in hair re-growth after 2 treatments, according to a study done in 2007 by Dr. Ronald Wheeland at University of Arizona Health Sciences.

It is clinically approved for women and men with light to medium skin tones and brown to black hair (check the chart on the box illustrating the range of suitable skin tones before purchase), when used as directed. An integrated skin sensor in the handheld unit confirms appropriate skin tone and unlocks the laser before each treatment. It can be used on arms, legs, feet, hands, chest, back, stomach, bikini line, chin and women's upper lips. It should not be used on skin areas darker than the regular skin tone, such as tattooed areas, moles, dark birthmarks or freckles. It retails for about $449.

Foreo Issa Toothbrush

The world's first silicone electric toothbrush features a cutting-edge, ergonomic design. High-intensity pulsations (available in 8 speeds) are channelled through soft silicone bristles, making it gentler and healthier for the gums as it effectively cleans the teeth, leaving them whiter while removing plaque and stains.

Hypoallergenic, free of BPA and phthalates (chemicals used to make plastic more flexible) and made from quick-drying, nonporous silicone, the hygienic material resists the build-up of bacteria. The maker says 3D functionality in the brush head adapts to any tooth surface and curves to the shape of the mouth to reach every crevice. Added bonuses include: no charging dock needed since it charges via USB, no replacement brush heads are required for 1 year and battery life lasts up to 365 uses per full charge, or about 6 months of use. It retails for about $199.

Foreo Luna

This facial device targets both cleansing and anti-aging needs of the skin, utilizing T-Sonic pulsation (transdermal sonic pulsations) technology (8,000 pulsations per minute) via soft, silicone touch points in a tapping motion.

Luna is the only device on the market using medical grade silicone and that is compatible with standard gels, creams and cleansers. Pulsations are directed across the skin's surface, removing 99.5 percent of all dirt and 98.5 percent of all makeup residue gently, its site notes, without irritating the skin or harming its elasticity with pulling and/or pinching.

The reverse side features lower-frequency pulsations to use for anti-aging effects on wrinkle-prone areas. It also provides a comfortable facial massage to increase micro-blood circulation and relaxation of facial muscles. It's programmed to run in Cleansing Mode for two full minutes before switching to Anti-Aging Mode. The 100 percent waterproof device provides up to 450 uses from a single charge and does not require changing its brush head. It retails for around $199.
