If you don't know what Doom is, you've probably never played a video game. If there is one series that can be credited with creating the modern video game market, it's Doom - without it, first-person shooters would have never become as popular as they are, and modern-day gaming would be completely different. Sure, it wasn't the first shooter on the market, but Doom took an entire genre and made it what it is today.

That being said, there hasn't been a new Doom game since Doom 3 debuted back in 2004. It's been over a decade since Doom fans have gotten a chance to blow space zombies back to Hell - and, while fans have known that Id Software was working on a sequel, only select members of the press have seen it in action. As far as the fans are concerned, this new Doom sequel is still a complete unknown.

Thankfully, Id Software has finally revealed when the rest of the world can see what Doom is all about: the developer just confirmed that Doom's gameplay reveal would take place at Bethesda's E3 press conference this June. Of course, that wasn't the only thing the studio revealed...

Yes, a 10-second tease is almost painful to watch after years of waiting - but it's better than nothing, right?

There's not much in the trailer (obviously), but there are two very distinct pieces of info fans can take away from it. First off, the Super Shotgun is back - this isn't the wimpy, overly sci-fi version from Doom 3. It's the classic double-barreled beauty, and everything fans could have possibly hoped for.

It also looks like the Revenants will also be making a return - though, while the skeleton-based rocket launchers were tall and lanky in Doom 3, it looks like they'll have a much more realistically-proportioned body this time around. Of course, they look a lot more like bloody, skinless corpses than skeletons - but then again, it's not Doom without a bit of gratuitous gore!

Obviously, it's still too early to tell if the game will be a worthy successor to the games that created a genre - but, with any luck, fans will finally have a better idea come June.

The full Doom gameplay reveal will take place at Bethesda's E3 press conference on June 14th.
