The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini has been officially confirmed to be receiving an update to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. The update is expected to be released next month, though no official time frame has been given.

Samsung and its affiliated carriers have been busy pushing out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the company's smartphones and phablets. The Galaxy Note 4 and last-generation flagship device the Galaxy S5 have both received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the U.S. on all major carriers: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular. Samsung's other top-tier handsets such as the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 have also received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the U.S. with a few exceptions, although many international regions have not yet received an update for the S5 and Note 4.

Now it appears Samsung is turning to the less popular but important variants of its flagship smartphones for the next wave of updates. The Galaxy S5 Active has already received an Android 5.0 Lollipop update in several regions including the U.S. where it is an exclusive AT&T variant, and the S5 Sport, a similar rugged S5 variant from Sprint has gotten the update as well.

All of the OS updates so far have been to the basic 5.0 version of Lollipop, but now Samsung Denmark has announced that the Galaxy S5 Mini will actually be receiving the 5.0.1 version of Lollipop, which is a slightly more advanced build. The S5 Mini is a smaller, less expensive version of the Galaxy S5, with midrange specs. The processor, camera and display of the S5 Mini all fall short of its more powerful sibling, but its size and price point make it attractive to many smartphone buyers.

The S5 Mini is available in the U.S. on both U.S. Cellular and AT&T, which recently introduced the phone to its lineup in March. While there's no word on the U.S. Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update release, it shouldn't be too long. As we recently reported, Samsung France confirmed release of an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the S5 Mini in the current quarter, which ends in June.

The Galaxy S5 should also be receiving an Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update at some point, as users are experiencing numerous problems with the original Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and Samsung has recently promised to release micro updates to resolve these issues.
