The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has just started to receive software updates to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, but the update is not for everyone.

Users of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 who bought their tablets from T-Mobile will receive the update. It's unknown when other carriers will follow suit with the Android Lollipop update to their own versions of the device. Last week, AT&T rolled out the Android Lollipop 5.0.2 update for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5.

T-Mobile did not mention specific new features users will receive from the update, so it is likely going to bring the same Android Lollipop features that users of flagship devices have been enjoying for quite some time now. These include the fluid and color animations of Material Design, lock screen notifications, a built-in battery saving mode, and more.

The over-the-air update started rolling out on Monday, but users who cannot wait for that can download the update manually via phone or Samsung Kies on their computer.

Before downloading Android Lollipop, make sure you have at least 50 percent battery life and are connected via Wi-Fi, since downloading the 1.1 GB update is sure to cost you a lot if you're doing it over T-Mobile's data network.

If you're downloading the update directly to your tablet, go to Apps and open Settings, then select the General tab. Tap About device, OK, then Start. This will automatically start downloading and installing Android Lollipop to your tablet. Once that is complete, you will be asked to restart your tablet. Tap OK to start the process. When your tablet boots up, it will be running the latest version of Android.

On the other hand, if you prefer to download Android Lollipop via Samsung Kies on your computer, you'll need to have the latest version of Kies to get the update. You'll also need to get your tablet ready by enabling USB debugging. To do this, go to Menu and tap Settings. Open Developer options, tap OK and tap USB debugging. In some tablets, you won't have this option, which is fine. Simply connect your tablet to your computer via USB port and select Media device (MTP) when prompted.

Now, open Samsung Kies and give it time to recognize the device. Follow the instructions on installing Android Lollipop. Once complete, you can unplug your tablet from your computer and enjoy the new features on your device.

Take note, you'll be updating to software version T807TUVU1BOE1 from either T807TUVU1ANK1 or T807TUVU1ANU3. If your tablet is not running on any of the two, it means you're running a non T-Mobile version, which is not supported by the update.
