There's nothing bigger happening this week than all the Secret Wars stuff going on at Marvel. Unless you count the final issue of DC's Convergence. (Frankly, we're more excited for Convergence to get out of the way so we can get to all the fascinating new storylines from Superman, Batman, and Justice League.)

There's an indie debuting this week that caught our eye too, but it's the Marvel action that's going to grab all the headlines.

Convergence #8

DC Says: All the heroes of the DC Universe unite to face a crisis of infinite proportions — but when all is done, there can be only one reality. But will even that survive the battle?

Why You Should Care: Things finally got interesting in issue #7. Can the finale deliver an ending that makes the whole thing worthwhile? Will Telos' real name ever be revealed? Will one (or any) universe survive Convergence? Most importantly: Will any of this matter in the longrun? Will Convergence turn out to be anything more than a trip down nostalgia lane?

Inferno #1

Marvel Says: Spinning out of the universe-shattering events of Secret Wars comes a new twist on the X-Men classic that's a whole hell of a lot hotter than you remember. 5 years ago a band of demons rose up out of the fiery depths and turned Manhattan into Hell on Earth. The X-Men fought to vanquish the demon horde and... The X-Men failed. Welcome back to the Inferno On this the fifth anniversary of Manhattan's fall, Piotr Rasputin is leading a small band of mutants back into the Inferno. Colossus doesn't know what they'll find on the other side of those flames but he knows for certain... They're not coming back without his sister.

Why You Should Care: It's Battleworld's version of Hades. Aren't you just a little bit curious?

The Infinity Gauntlet #1

Marvel Says: Think your life is hard? Anwen Bakian's family lives in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, scrounging for food and avoiding giant bugs intent on eating them. Mom left years ago to join the Nova force and never came back. So it's just Anwen, her dad, her sister and her grandpa against the huge insects. That is, until she finds a mysterious stone that may or may not hold incredible cosmic power. Don't miss this incredible new series by DEADPOOL writer Gerry Duggan and EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE writer/artist Dustin Weaver that will set the cosmic table for the Marvel Universe for years to come!

Why You Should Care: One of the many intriguing twists on crossovers of yesteryear, this Infinity Gauntlet sounds like it doesn't have much in common with its namesake. We're especially curious to see how the Nova Corps fits into Battleworld.

Old Man Logan #1

Marvel Says: Enter the Wastelands... a realm where all heroes have been murdered by their arch-enemies, villains who now rule over the land with an iron fist. In the midst of this dystopian chaos, one man may make a difference... A reluctant warrior who was once the greatest mutant of all... A man known as OLD MAN LOGAN.

Why You Should Care: One of the most anticipated titles to come from Secret Wars, the Old Man Logan character was a truly unique spin on Wolverine, set in a fascinating world. And with Brian Michael Bendis writing and sumptuous art by Andrea Sorrentino, this should be a major highlight of Secret Wars.

Secret Wars Journal #1

Marvel Says: Is LADY KATE of 1602 the nefarious HAWKEYE BANDIT who robs from the rich and gives to the poor? Can an enslaved band of MUTANTS in EGYPTIA overthrow their overlord, KHONSHU? Can YOU afford not to read the coolest, hippest, most continuity-important book in all of SECRET WARS??? Because this is TOTALLY THAT BOOK. But don't tell anyone. It'll be our little Secret...Wars Journal.

Why You Should Care: Past Marvel crossover events have had similarly titled tie-ins, but those were typically about reporters covering the event from ground level. This doesn't look anything like that. Instead, it's another collection of short, contained stories from across the patchwork planet, similar to Battleworld. Could Marvel just not think of another name for it? Whatever. They had us at the 1602 version of Kate Bishop.

Surface Tension #1

Titan Says: Months after mysterious corals drew 99% of humanity into the sea, a band of survivors ekes out a hollow existence on a remote British island. When two people are cast up on the beach, completely blue, but very much alive, the island is thrown into turmoil. What caused the mass extinction event? How did these two return from the deep, when billions died? Most importantly, what is the coral, and what does it want with the Earth? The oceans have never seemed so threatening!

Why You Should Care: Is writer/artist Jay Gunn issuing a cautionary tale of eco-disaster? A "monster movie"-style shlockfest? A honking big X-Files mystery? We have no idea, but the premise has us intrigued enough to pick it up.
