The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that LQNN, Inc., operating as Lee's Sandwiches, is recalling about 213,192 pounds of meat products that have been misbranded as passing the agency's inspection.

The problem was uncovered by personnel from the FSIS in a surveillance inspection, during which chicken, beef and pork products that had not been federally checked were manufactured at a warehouse distributorship.

USDA inspection marks were then applied to these products without authorization, prompting the recall. Affected products were identified to be part of Establishment number 18995. Since these have not been properly inspected, they are being recalled due to the potential risk they bring to consumer health.

Produced from May 18, 2014 to May 18, 2015, the affected products were distributed across different retail channels in Texas, Oregon, Oklahoma, Nevada, California and Arizona and may contain the "P-11041" or "Est. 11041" within their USDA marks of inspection. These include the:

  • Banh Bao Pork & Egg Steamed Bun
  • Banh Bao Trung Cut Pork & Quail Egg Steamed Bun Vietnamese Style
  • Pork Pate Chaud (Small and Large)
  • Chicken Pate Chaud (Small and Large)
  • Sliced Oil Browned Turkey Premium Breast Meat Fully Cooked
  • Sliced Salami Meat with Wine Fully Cooked
  • Fruit Beef Jerky (Kho Bo) - 4oz.
  • B.B.Q. Beef Jerky (Kho Bo) - 4oz.
  • Curry Beef Jerky (Kho Bo) - 4oz.

The FSIS and Lee's Sandwiches have not received any reports showing adverse reactions resulting from eating any of the recalled products. Anyone concerned that they might be having a reaction should immediately seek medical attention. For food safety questions, consumers can also check online with the FSIS's virtual representative.

The FSIS routinely checks if recalls are effective by verifying if companies have notified their customers about a recall and that actions have been taken to ensure that affected products are no longer sold to consumers.

The USDA uses three recall classifications: Class I, Class II and Class III. Class I represents a health hazard situation where a reasonable likelihood exists that using a product will lead to serious health consequences or even death.

The recall involving Lee's Sandwiches falls under Class II. Class II denotes that there is a remote possibility of adverse health consequences when a product is used while Class III involves a situation wherein using the product will not result in adverse consequences to health.
