Windows Phone fans have been waiting for a new flagship Lumia from Microsoft. A new high-end Lumia has just made an appearance on GFXBench, revealing the smartphone's specs.

Microsoft's Windows OS dominates the desktop OS market share by a considerable margin when compared to Apple's Mac OS X, which runs on the company's desktop and laptop lineup. While Microsoft has Apple defeated in this area, the company's smartphone OS market share is basically non-existent. As of Q1 2015, Google's Android smartphone OS holds a 78 percent market share, followed by Apple's iOS with 18.3 percent, and Microsoft's Windows Phone with 2.7 percent.

Microsoft is banking on its upcoming Windows 10 Mobile for smartphones to turn things around and allow it to better compete with Android smartphones from Samsung, HTC, LG, and Motorola, as well as Apple's iPhone series. It looks like Microsoft is preparing to finally release a new flagship Lumia smartphone, as the handset just popped up on GFXBench.

NPU is reporting that a smartphone believed to be the Lumia 940 made a stop at popular benchmarking site GFXBench and revealing its specs in the process. NPU claims that even though the benchmark lists the handset as having a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 display, it will actually feature a 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display.

The Lumia 940 will reportedly be powered by a 64-bit hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, just like LG's flagship G4 smartphone. The site claims that while the benchmark shows 1.5GB of RAM inside the device, it's actually referring to free memory at the time of the benchmark test and will ship with 3GB of RAM. The Lumia 940, which is listed by its codename of "Nokia RM-1106," will include 32GB of internal storage and boast a 20-megapixel Pureview rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing shooter for selfies and video chat.

As always, it's best to take reports of unannounced devices with a grain of salt until we hear something official. We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new information on the Lumia 940 as it becomes available.
