Bart Simpson is set to die this Halloween. No, we're not bluffing. His nemesis Sideshow Bob will get his wish in the impending Halloween episode—but just temporarily.

In the upcoming Halloween episode "Treehouse of Horror," the diabolical Sideshow Bob will kill Bart Simpson after two painful decades of trying to bump him off to no effect.

The news comes straight from the horse's mouth: The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean. At the ATX Festival, Jean revealed that Bart would be meeting his end at the hands of Sideshow Bob.

"I hated frustration comedy so we'll scratch that itch," said Jean. So Bob will finally execute Bart then won't know what to do with himself after his life's mission has been accomplished.

Jean could well be echoing the sentiments of some fans of the show who want the malicious 10-year-old to get his due.

Sideshow Bob was the sidekick of Krusty the Clown. He attempted to get his employer tangled in a robbery in the "Krusty Gets Busted" episode that aired in 1990. He was, however, unsuccessful in framing his employer as his plans were spoiled by Bart.

Synonymous with spiky red hair, Sideshow Bob was first introduced on The Simpsons in season 3 in 1990 in the episode "Black Widower." He was shown being released from prison and going on to marry Bart's Aunt Selma. True to his evil ways, Sideshow Bob tried to blow his wife up.

In 1993, Sideshow Bob also returned in season 5 in the episode "Cape Feare" to target Bart. The maniacal Sideshow Bob is voiced by Kelsey Grammar, who will return as the character in "Treehouse of Horror."

While Sideshow Bob will ultimately succeed in executing his malevolent plan of killing Bart in the Halloween special, it does not mean the end of the road for the boy. Bart will be back in subsequent episodes as "Treehouse of Horror" is a one-off episode and meant to be a Halloween special.

The exact date when "Treehouse of Horror" will be aired is not known.
