Ever since the game's official announcement, Call of Duty fans have been wondering: Will Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 alongside the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions?

The answer is now a definitive yes.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has been designed to harness the full potential of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC," Scott Lowe writes in an official Activision blog post. "However, we know that there are still some fans that haven't made the transition to the new console hardware, which is why we're happy to share that we're working with developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."

There is, however, a catch. For starters, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 beta will only be for those playing on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. There are a number of other changes between the current-gen and last-gen versions of the game as well.

Treyarch's campaign mode in Black Ops 3, for example, allows for four players to play together on Xbox One and PS4. That won't be the case on last-gen consoles.

"[T]he campaign mode on Xbox 360 and PS3 is currently in development with a goal of enabling two-player cooperative play, instead of the four-player cooperative campaign on next-gen," Lowe writes. "There will also be some other features and functionality built specifically for the new generation of consoles that cannot be supported on Xbox 360 and PS3."

Lowe also notes that there is no Wii U version of the game planned. Even with the changes, the good news is that Black Ops 3 on Xbox 360 and PS3 is currently slated to release alongside their current-gen counterparts on November 6.
