We all know that many marriages don't last long in Hollywood, but one of the most iconic couples are finally breaking up after 26 long (television) years together.

Join us in a collective D'oh! because The Simpsons executive Al Jean announced that Homer and Marge are set to spilt in Season 27 of the animated series.

Jean revealed in an interview with Variety that the couple will "legally separate." And even though we are left in shock, at least he didn't say divorce, so there still might be a chance they will be able to work out their differences and rekindle their love. However, this has not yet been confirmed.

In the premiere episode of Sedason 27, Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who will be voiced by Lena Dunham (Girls), and is diagnosed with narcolepsy, causing a strain between the two.

Jean said that there are lots of cameos this season, including those from the other women in Girls. It was also revealed that Sideshow Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammar) will make an appearance, and "we finally see him do something he's wanted to do for 25 years."

Sideshow Bob will kill Bart during the show's "Treehouse of Terror" Halloween special. But don't worry, Bart will make is comeback in the following episodes. There is also the return of Spider Pig in another episode.

While there is lots to look forward to this season, Homer and Marge's separation is not the only depressing news. We previously learned that the show's producer Harry Shearer will not return to the animated series, meaning the voices of Mr. Burn, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders and Principal Skinner will have to be replaced.

However, producers said during a panel at Austin's ATX Television Festival last week that they hope a new deal can be worked out so that Shearer can come back.

Season 27 of The Simpsons will premiere on September 27 on Fox.
