U.S. carriers AT&T and Verizon have started updating their HTC One M8 for Windows with the Windows Phone (WP) 8.1 update 2, which is also known as GDR2.
Microsoft is gearing up for the launch of Windows 10 Mobile for smartphones but the latest Windows Phone operating system remains WP 8.1. Verizon recently started rolling out the latest Microsoft software to the HTC One M8 and now AT&T customers of the handset have also started getting the upgrade.
Software updates usually bring in new features and bug fixes, and with WP 8.1 GDR2, customers can expect the same. The update brings along some notable changes, such as native support for MKV video files, support for external Bluetooth keyboard, new Settings screen that is easily searchable, toggles for app permission and the ability to protect the handset from unauthorized resets.
HTC launched and released the Android version of the HTC One M8 in March 2014. Then in August 2014, HTC One M8 for Windows made its way to shelves.
The HTC One M8 for Windows packs in impressive hardware specs that have enticed many smartphone customers. The handset sports a 5-inch multi-touch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 441 ppi.
The 2.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM power the HTC One M8 for Windows. The smartphone has 32GB of internal memory and the option to expand the memory to an additional 128GB with the use of a microSD card. The HTC smartphone houses a 2,600mAh battery.
HTC's website shows that 80 percent of HTC One M8 for Windows customers recommend the handset. Some users believe that the Windows version is even better than the Android version of the smartphone.
"I like this one because HTC One M8 for Windows is better than HTC one M8 Android for productivity," shared a customer on the HTC website.
The HTC One M8 for Windows still remains one of the most powerful WP 8.1 phones available on the market.
Windows 10 Mobile is slated for a September launch, and HTC One M8 for Windows customers will hope to get a software update at that time. However, HTC has not yet officially confirmed this.
