Rumors have been swirling that BlackBerry is planning on launching a new flagship smartphone that will run Android. New details regarding the handset's specs and release date have leaked.

At this year's Mobile World Congress in March, Samsung, HTC and BlackBerry announced new smartphones. While Samsung wowed the crowd with its new flagship Galaxy S6 and dual-edged display Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC and BlackBerry underwhelmed with the HTC One M9 and BlackBerry Leap.

BlackBerry did have one surprise up its sleeve, and it came in the form of a dual-curved display smartphone like the Galaxy S6 Edge. The handset also features the company's iconic physical QWERTY keyboard, but this time around, it slides out when not in use, unlike the fixed keyboard found on the BlackBerry Classic and Passport.

We recently reported on news that BlackBerry was preparing to release its first smartphone running Android, and a few days later, reports surfaced that the company might be partnering with Samsung to build its first Android handset. The news could turn out to be true, considering the upcoming smartphone was shown with a dual-curved display that looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

A new report regarding BlackBerry's upcoming Android smartphone claims to reveal many of the smartphone's key specs. The device has been codenamed "Venice" and could be released in two versions, one running Android and the other running BB 10. The smartphones will reportedly ship with a 5.4-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD display with dual-curved edges.

The BlackBerry "Venice" is said to be powered by 3 GB of RAM and a 64-bit 1.8 GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which is the same chip used in LG's latest flagship, the G4. The smartphone's camera capabilities are said to include an 18 megapixel rear shooter and 5 megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chat.

The report says that BlackBerry is planning to release the "Venice" in November, which means it's going to have some stiff competition from Apple's iPhone 6s Plus and Samsung's Galaxy Note 5. We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new details regarding BlackBerry's upcoming smartphone.
