Samsung Galaxy A8 is the largest model in the Galaxy A lineup which includes the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A6, Galaxy A7 and the Galaxy A9. Measuring at 5.7 inches, the handset was recently spotted at the FCC in the U.S. While no new details about the handset had been unveiled, the FCC filing had somehow made the handset one step closer towards its launch.

Prior to the FCC spotting, the Galaxy A8 has also appeared in TENAA, the FCC equivalent in China. At such point, some of the handset's specifications had been revealed. These include the Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080, a RAM of 2GB, internal storage of 16GB which can be expanded up to 128GB through a microSD card, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor, 3050mAh battery, 16MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and Android 5.1 Lollipop that comes pre-installed with the device.

The Galaxy A8 weighs 142 grams and measures 158 by 76.7 by 5.94 millimeters (6.22 by 3.02 by 0.23 inches). Other features include WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, Samsung's TouchWiz UI and a touch fingerprint sensor. The latter is also one of the features in the Galaxy S6, Samsung's latest flagship.

Adding the touch fingerprint sensor to the Galaxy A8 reiterates the company's commitment to enhance security among its devices. With this feature, users no longer need to swipe their finger on the sensor. Rather, they simply have to place their fingertip on the home key then lift it off. They don't even have to worry about getting the right angle while doing the step.

The Galaxy A8 has also been classified as a mid-range device which, when compared to other mid-range devices from Samsung, could qualify as the most feature-packed model. It's also the company's first non-flagship to feature a 16MP rear camera.

The handset shares the same camera pixels with the Galaxy S6 Active. The latter is slightly thicker at 0.34 inches with a slightly bigger battery of 3500mAh. It's also heavier with its weight of 150 grams. However, this model has a smaller display which measures at 5.1 inches.

The Galaxy A8 was first rumored as being a China-only handset. However, news of the FCC filing had somehow cleared up speculations on whether the device will also be landing on U.S. shores.

Details such as launch date and pricing are yet to be announced. Armed with two certifications, TENAA and FCC, there's no question that the Galaxy A8 is ready for a public release anytime soon.
