Just a few days ago, Tech Times had reported that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be equipped with an iris scanning feature, as the company has been working on such recognition technology for quite awhile now.

It is believed that the new security standard is expected to be added to Samsung's products that are scheduled for release in 2016. However, the latest report says that Samsung may just launch the Galaxy S7 earlier than the original schedule. The reason may not be too difficult to guess: the company is releasing the next flagship in order to compete against the iPhone 6S.

Being the next flagship, it is only natural to assume that the Galaxy S7 has specs and features that are enhanced versions found on its predecessors. Samsung may have also retained some of those features and then carried them over to the S7.

A video showing the purported specs of the Galaxy S7 says that the device will have a 5.5-inch 4K Super AMOLED display. It will be a revolutionary device in terms of connectivity as it is rumored to be equipped with 5G network bands that will certainly boost the user's browsing experience and deliver a faster and smoother performance. Additionally, the Galaxy S7 will also feature super-fast Wi-Fi connectivity.

Other specs and features include a RAM of 4 GB at the minimum, 64-bit Exynos 3.5 GHz processing power, internal memory in a trio of options (32, 64 and 128 GB), 30 MP rear camera and 10 MP front camera. It will also have a new camera feature dubbed "gigapixel" that will allow the user to capture images with more accuracy and clarity. Lastly, the new Galaxy S7 will have the so-called "infrared sensor," which can measure body temperature with impressive accuracy.

The price of the Galaxy S7 seems only slightly different from that of the Galaxy S6 devices. The latter phones in the 32 GB versions cost somewhere between $800 to $890. The upcoming flagship is rumored to retail at a whopping $999. Whether this is due to the S7's increased screen size, the 30 MP rear camera feature, the infrared sensor or the iris scanner, it is still too early to say at this point.

The report on the device's purported launch in the second half of 2015 was actually revealed by the South Korean news publication Newsis. According to the site, Samsung has already started working on the Galaxy S7 around two to three months earlier than the previously-announced schedule. If there is truth to these rumors, it would mean that Samsung would have two Galaxy S models launched in a single year.

However, there is a good possibility that Samsung will not release the Galaxy S7 and follow its regular schedule of product launches.

"The company remains committed to launching products in pre-determined launch windows, which includes the S series," a member of Samsung's marketing was quoted saying.

It remains to be seen how the upcoming flagship will indeed be a strong competitor against the iPhone 6S. In addition, the Galaxy S7 could also feel the pressure to beat the record sales of its predecessors, which is expected to reach 45 million toward the end of the year.
