Naruto has been one of the most popular anime series worldwide since its release in Japan in 2002. That's why many anime fans have patiently waited for Boruto: Naruto The Movie, a film that picks up where the anime series left off.

Based on a popular manga, the series takes place in a village of ninjas that was once attacked by a powerful fox. The village's leader traps the fox inside his son, Naruto. This, of course, means that the village doesn't like Naruto as a child and Naruto doesn't understand why until someone finally reveals the truth to him. Eventually, Naruto himself becomes a powerful ninja.

Boruto: Naruto The Movie picks up with Naruto now being a father to a rebellious boy who may exceed his father's reputation.

"Boruto is the son of the seventh Hokage Naruto who completely rejects his father," says the official movie synopsis. "Behind this, he has feelings of wanting to surpass Naruto, who is respected as a hero. He ends up meeting his father's friend Sasuke, and requests to become ... his apprentice!? The curtain rises on the story of the new generation written by Masashi Kishimoto!"

The new trailer received English subtitles thanks to Kotaku.

The trailer introduces new characters to the Naruto story, including Boruto, Sarada, Mitsuki, and Momoshiki.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie opens in Japanese theaters on Aug. 7. The first 2 million people who see the film get a special booklet that contains a new manga episode by Masashi Kishimoto, who wrote the original Naruto manga. Those moviegoers will also receive a full color copy of the manga's final episode from 2014.

Advance tickets for the movie go on sale in Japan on June 27.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie also recently got a new poster.

There's no word yet when the Borutu: Naruto the Movie sees a worldwide release, but with the anime's popularity, it's likely the studio plans on releasing both a subtitled and dubbed version of the film for a DVD and online streaming release.
