The North American theatrical release for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods was a smash hit, as fans of the anime series flocked to theaters to watch Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and the rest of the "Z Fighter" gang once again protect the Earth from complete annihilation.

Given that kind of success, it's no surprise that the next Dragon Ball Z film, Resurrection 'F', will also be arriving in North America for a limited time. This time Goku will be duking it out once again with arguably the greatest villain in the show's history: Frieza.

"Last year's phenomenal fan response to Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods resulted in sold out theaters across North America," Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of FUNimation, says in a statement. "For Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F' we've expanded our theatrical distribution to more than 1,000 theaters to meet fan demand, but it wouldn't surprise me if theaters sell-out again. This movie is visually stunning and offers even more action that Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods."

The intergalactic warlord is back and he is looking for revenge. As you can see in the domestic trailer below (via IGN), Frieza isn't alone either. He has brought an entire army of loyal subjects to conquer the Earth, and it will be up to Goku and the rest to stop them.

It's nice to see Piccolo, Tien and Krillin all get in on the action here. As Dragon Ball Z progressed and Goku grew more and more powerful, many of the other characters that played an important role early on in the series simply got outclassed, their power levels unable to keep up with Goku or the ever stronger villains that continued to make themselves known. It looks like Frieza's henchmen will serve as a nice way to remind audiences that though they may be a little rusty, the non-saiyan characters are far from pushovers.

Overall, it looks like this film will be much more action-oriented than Battle of Gods. Considering this is Dragon Ball Z we are talking about, that is definitely a good thing.

You can pre-buy tickets for the movie now, and if you happen to be attending Anime Expo or San Diego Comic Con, showing your proof of ticket purchase at the FUNimation booth will score you a Goku or Frieza phone charm straight from Japan.

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' will be in select theaters from Aug. 4-12. Dragon Ball Super, the new series from original Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, premieres in Japan on July 5.
