The Fallout 4 special collector's edition with a playable Pip-Boy replica that allows gamers to use their smartphones as a secondary screen for the game sold out quickly. However, not all who bought the neat marketing gimmick read the fine print.

Fans of Fallout 4 were sad to realize that the Pip-Boy was not compatible with phablets, which have become the trend these days.

Not all smartphones were created equal in size. Smartphone specs and quality have advanced through the years and they have become bigger. Sometimes, however, bigger isn’t always better.

According to the Bethesda blog:

"We have new information on the phones compatible with the Pip-Boy Edition. The Pip-Boy included will have foam inserts that fit iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 4/4s, Samsung Galaxy 5 and Samsung Galaxy 4. In addition, using the customizable foam insert you should be able to fit most other popular smartphone devices. As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device. For these larger devices, our Pip-Boy companion app will still be available."

What this basically means is that smartphones that are larger than the ones listed on the blog will not fit inside the casing. Too bad for those who own an iPhone 6 Plus or a Samsung Galaxy S6. Perhaps the developers will come up with something that will cater to those owners, but for now the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition is currently sold out in North America and no further details have been posted as of yet. For fans and gamers in the European area, Bethesda promised updates about the availability of the product some time this week.

Hopefully, this news won't deter gamers and faithful Fallout 4 fans from enjoying the game even though this means not all of them will be able to enhance their experience of the game with their Pip-Boy replica secondary screens on their smartphones.
