Apple's next-generation iPhone 6s lineup will reportedly sport a 12-megapixel rear camera, if newly leaked info turns out to be accurate.

We live in a mobile-driven world where iPhones hold a special place, ranking high in the charts for several years now. While some argue that iPhones barely catch up to Android rivals, Apple has numerous loyal fans who can't wait for a new iPhone iteration to hit the surface.

The new-generation iPhones are still months away from their official debut, but the rumor mill is always busy churning in anticipation. The 2015 flagship iPhone, unofficially dubbed the iPhone 6s or iPhone 7, has already starred in a few rumors, and it's expected to boast notable upgrades compared to its predecessors: the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

While nothing is confirmed at this point, more information now comes to light and hints at some upgrades in the camera department. Apple will reportedly stick to the same iPhone 6/ 6 Plus design for its iPhone 6s but change several things under the hood.

Just the other day, 9to5Mac published a number of leaked images allegedly showing the iPhone 6s chassis (see image above), citing a "proven source" close to Apple's supply chain.

A new report, meanwhile, adds some details regarding the next-generation iPhone's internal hardware, as briefly spotted on Weibo, a popular microblogging site in China. The post in question allegedly came from a Foxconn employee and contained several images, but vanished shortly after it surfaced.

Nevertheless, the new iPhone 6s family, expected to launch in the fall of 2015, will reportedly boast 12-megapixel rear cameras with 4K video capabilities, as well as slow-motion footage at 240 fps. This leak apparently contradicts previous speculation that the 2015 iPhone flagship may rock a 16-megapixel rear shooter.

The iPhone 6s reportedly carries model number N66 internally, while the iPhone 6s Plus is N71. Both models will apparently feature 2GB of RAM, 5-megapixel front cameras, as well as LTE Cat. 6 modems.

Previous rumors have also indicated that the iPhone 6s will rock Force Touch technology, a tougher alloy for a more durable body, a faster processor and more.

Rumors indicate that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have already entered early production, ahead of their scheduled debut sometime in September. With nothing officially confirmed at this point, however, it's highly advisable to take all leaks with a grain of salt.
