The idea of Invader Zim – one of the greatest cult classic TV shows of all time – making any sort of return after years of being off the air still doesn't seem possible. Sure, fans have been clamoring for its return — but that doesn't mean much. Most of the time, said fans would have to make do with simply rewatching old episodes over and over and over again... and, for a long time, it looked like Invader Zim fans would have to do just that.

Then, seemingly out of no where, a new comic from series creator Jhonen Vasquez and Oni Press was announced — and fans went (understandably) ballistic. It's not unheard of for such a series to make a big return, but not every revival is lucky enough to have the original talent return with it. Thankfully, that is the case for Invader Zim... though fans still had to wait for months before the books actually started hitting store shelves.

Of course, it's impossible to talk about comics in July without mentioning Comic-Con. Considering that the first issue is set to hit store shelves next week, many fans were hoping that the new Invader Zim would make its way to SDCC 2015. As it turns out, Oni Press has more than a few tricks up its sleeve — and by "tricks," we mean variant covers.

Wow — even some of Marvel's biggest event books don't see that many variant covers.

To be frank, these covers are gorgeous — and, when you learn who did the art for each one, it's easy to see why. Artists like Mariel Cartwright (Skullgirls), Bryan Konietzko (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Julieta Colás (Rick and Morty) all contributed to the various covers, and that's only scratching the surface.

If you happen to be at Comic-Con 2015 this weekend, you'll be able to find a number of the different ssues on sale at the Oni Press booth — otherwise, you can head over to the official Oni Press site and pick up the standard edition of Invader Zim #1 on July 8.
