An ultrafuturistic smartphone called the Turing Phone is set to go on sale July 31, boasting a case stronger than steel and security features that will make any privacy-savvy user drool.

Turing Robotic Industries, or TRI, built the device. The base model, which has 16 GB of storage, will cost $610.

"The Turing Phone is a revolutionary liquid-metal phone that not only redefines phone engineering, it also paves the way for trustworthy communication," says TRI on its website.

Apart from the design, there are a number of reasons that this phone is so futuristic. The first is the TRI-designed liquid-metal backing, which the company says is harder than steel. This makes the device very shock-resistant. Not only that, but it also has an IPx8 waterproof rating, meaning it can be submerged under 30 feet of water.

Of course, users who want an ultrastrong and secure smartphone will also want the specs to match. The Turing Phone comes with specs to compete with many flagships found on the market. The device features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel front facing camera. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop. The display is 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

High-end security was also a focus in the creation of this device. It features a fingerprint sensor on its side, and uses its own "protected communications network," which has end-to-end authentication and is described by the company as a secure way to transfer information without fear of interception — something that is especially helpful in mobile banking.

The design itself seems to be somewhat polarizing, with some saying that they love it and others saying the opposite.

TRI says that it will officially unveil the different color configurations for the Turing Phone on July 22, with preorders starting on the 31st. Apart from the base model, which is 16 GB and costs $610, there is a 64-GB version for $740 and a 128-GB version for $870. Those who preorder the device will also get a few extra goodies.

"Customers preordering the new phone will receive a bonus accessories package including a mobile Bluetooth keyboard, Bluetooth speaker, gaming Bluetooth headset and mobile gaming controller," said the company in a statement.

TRI plans to release its Turing Library software development kit (SDK) in August and is scheduled to open its first U.S. retail store in the first quarter of next year.
