The HD remaster of Resident Evil 0 won't be available until early 2016, but you can see some footage from the new version of the game and how it stacks up to its prototype and original release.

Capcom recently released a five-minute video that compares footage of the 1999 prototype of the game created for the Nintendo 64 to the original 2002 version released exclusively for GameCube to the upcoming HD remaster, which will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

The video compares scenes featuring protagonist Rebecca Chambers as she defeats zombies in an abandoned train car, meets her future partner Billy Coen and takes on some rambunctious, zombified dogs. In the game, Rebecca is a rookie of Raccoon City's Special Tactics and Rescue Service, or S.T.A.R.S., who has to team up with ex-Nacy lieutenant and death-row inmate Billy to combat the zombies that have taken over the city as the result of a viral outbreak.

The quality of the graphics and writing has clearly improved from the prototype to the original release to the HD remaster of Resident Evil 0. Although you expect there to be many changes made from the prototype to when the game is actually released, it's still interesting to see how the game has evolved more subtly in its various incarnations, such as the character of Rebecca getting redesigned to not include a hat and her voice becoming steadier and less breathy.

Resident Evil 0 is a prequel to the events of the original Resident Evil, which got its own HD remaster in January. In addition to the visuals getting an HD remaster, the new release of Resident Evil 0 will have improved sound quality, widescreen support and new controls that let you move in the direction you push on the analog stick.
