New details have emerged regarding the launch and release date of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The phablets will be announced at an event in mid-August and go on sale on August 21.

Samsung is getting ready to take a two-pronged attack on Apple's upcoming iPhone 6s Plus, because it does not want to repeat what happened last year when Apple entered the phablet game with the iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung has dominated the jumbo-sized smartphone category ever since it released the original Galaxy Note in 2011, and, unlike last year's release of the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, the company is about to launch the Galaxy Note 5 and a new member to the S6 family with the S6 Edge Plus.

We reported in June that there were rumors that Samsung was planning to change its usual September launch for the Galaxy Note 5 by pushing up its release to August in order to get a head start on the expected September release of the iPhone 6s Plus. Specs for the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus recently leaked, and now, official launch and release dates have emerged, according to a new report.

SamMobile is reporting that its trusted insider has revealed that the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will officially be announced at a press event on August 12. The site claims that both devices will go on sale around two weeks later on August 21.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will look like a larger version of the current Galaxy S6, include extremely thin screen bezels around its display and feature a redesigned S Pen. The new S Pen is said to look and feel more like a standard pen and its color will match that of the Note 5, which will be offered in choices of black, white, silver and gold.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will essentially be a phablet version of the dual-edged display Galaxy S6 Edge. The S6 Edge Plus will also reportedly be offered in the same color options as the Note 5.

With the reported launch date on August 12, it shouldn't be long until we hear something official from Samsung. As always, we'll be sure to keep you posted on any new details regarding the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
