Marvel Comics just announced a new crossover comics series that combines its Darth Vader title with its Star Wars title. Called Vader Down, the six-part series is the first time that the two comic books have met each other.

With writing by Jason Aaron (Star Wars) and Kieron Gillen (Darth Vader) and artwork by Mike Deodato (Original Sin) and Salvador Larroca (Darth Vader), Vader Down tells a story where the Rebellion finally has a chance to take down Vader after his TIE Fighter gets shot down. This forces Vader to face the rebellion by himself, but he's counting on the dark side of the Force to protect him.

"This is a true crossover in the classic Marvel Style," says Marvel editor Jordan D. White in a press statement. "Kicking off in the Vader Down one-shot, the story then bounces between Darth Vader and Star Wars, telling a story that is essential to the plotlines of both books, that takes the casts from each and smashes them together in one epic tale!"

Of course, at first, the rebels think they have Vader right where they want him, but that isn't always the case when it comes to dealing with the dark side. According to Gillen, though, Vader takes it all in stride.

"I think he'll take it calmly and try diplomacy for a while, perhaps inviting everyone in and baking them a tasty pie," said Gillen in an interview with Marvel.com. "Seriously - the situation is agreeably complicated."

Gillen went on to explain that Vader's priority is getting Luke without alerting the rebels as to why Luke is so important to him in the first place, meaning that Vader has to play the situation close to his chest. However, even priorities can't always stand up against the dark side because Vader also has "a whole base of Rebel soldiers to stab."

Vader Down hits comic book stores and online in November, a month before the release of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens on Dec. 18. Meanwhile, the latest issues of Darth Vader and Star Wars are available now.
