Microsoft Surface Pro 4 may hit the market in October. The tablet is expected to come running on Windows 10.

Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 3 tablet in May 2014 and released the tablet in June 2014. It has been over a year since the release of the Surface Pro 3 and Microsoft is yet to confirm its plans for the Surface Pro 4.

While Microsoft remains mum on the upcoming tablet, a DigiTimes report suggests that sources in the supply chain have reported that the components of the Surface Pro 4 will start shipping from September this year and the tablet will be made available the following month.

Sources of the information noted that Surface Pro shipments were between 200,000 and 250,000 units per month in 1Q and the shipments increased to 300,000 units  following the release of the Surface Pro 3. 

"With the new Surface, the sources expect Microsoft's monthly tablet shipments to have a chance to reach 500,000-600,000 units," per DigiTimes.

The Surface Pro 4 is not expected to see any external design tweaks. The tablet is estimated to have the same bezel size and a large 12-inch screen. Apple is said to be working on a 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Many tablet enthusiasts will hope that the Surface Pro 4 is also launched with a bigger screen size that can compete with the rumored iPad Pro.

The Surface Pro 4 may come running on Intel's latest Skylake processor and with up to 16GB RAM, which will offer faster processing.

The Surface Pro 3 is available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 500GB internal storage options. It should not come as a surprise if Microsoft unveils a 1TB version of the Surface Pro 4.

Just like the Surface Pro 3, the display of Surface Pro 4 is also expected to have a resolution of 2,160 by 1,440 pixels. The Surface Pro 3 has a starting price tag of $799, which makes tablet users to look in other directions. 

Microsoft is yet to confirm the specs, release date and price of the Surface Pro 4.
