Google may soon allow users to choose their customized email address for as low as $2 per month.

Users signing up for a normal Gmail account get their email address as their preferred name followed by "@gmail.com." The company has now confirmed that it is testing a plan that will allow users to customize their email address.

GSMArena posted a screenshot of the new offering from a Google Web page. Google later confirmed to CIO.com that it is experimenting on custom email addresses.

"We know that your first choice of username probably wasn't yourname384756368@gmail.com, which is why we're experimenting with scalable ways to provide other options. This is just a test though, and we haven't made any decisions for the long term," per a Google statement. 

If the plan is rolled out then private customers will get their own custom address from Gmail for $2 per month with default storage of 15GB. The service per the GSMArena screenshot is called "Gmail custom address."

Business and professional users can pay $5 per month and a plan called "Gmail for work" where customer get custom email address from Gmail and 30GB online storage. Customers in this plan will also get 24/7 support as well as several business tools.

The scheme will also include a plan called "Gmail for Work unlimited" that will cost $10 per month. Along with a custom email address from Gmail, customers will also get unlimited online storage or 1TB per user if there are less than five users. Customers enrolling to this plan will also get archiving and Google's eDiscovery service.

Customizable email address may attract small businesses that do not have budgets to get their own domain name. Starting at just $2 per month, many individual customers will be willing to get email address with a domain of their choice.

The service is still in the testing phase and Google has not confirmed a release date.
