Wearable heart rate monitors continue to be all the rage, but the one problem with them has always been tracking while swimming. Until now, that is.

Garmin has announced its new HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim as the company's first waterproof underwater heart rate monitors, giving off minimal drag through the water for triathletes and swimmers alike.

Each device stores up to 20 hours of heart rate data during swims, forwarding the information to a compatible Garmin device at the end of a session with real-time heart rate to the watch when the monitor gets taken out the water.

"Last fall we introduced our Forerunner 920XT multisport watch, our most advanced all-in-one solution for triathlon training. The HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim add another level for triathletes and swimmers, offering them the most comprehensive data to help them train for and achieve their goals,"  said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of worldwide sales, via a press release statement.

Specifically designed for triathletes, the HRM-Tri will keep them in the know during every leg of any race, even now in the water. The HRM-Swim, too, captures heart rate while training in the pool. After a race or swim, users can analyze their detailed data and performance metrics via Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect Mobile. The metrics include pace, strokes, heart rate graphs, mapping and more, according to Garmin.

The HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim will begin shipping in the third quarter at a retail price of $129.99 and $99.99, respectively, or as a bundle pack for $199.99. A tri-bundle, also including the 920XT watch and quick release kit, will be available for $599.99.
