Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime and Google Play Edition confirmed by Bluetooth certification

It appears as if we're getting closer to see Samsung officially launch its premium Galaxy S5 Prime and its Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition thanks to a Bluetooth SIG listing.

We reported back in March that Google was planning on offering a Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition; some earlier reports claimed the smartphone would be announced on April 11. That clearly never happened, but new information not only confirms the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition is on its way, so is the highly anticipated premium Galaxy S5 Prime, which will pack in a Quad HD display with a very high resolution of 2560 x 1440 (same resolution of LG's upcoming LG G3).

Samsung has denied that it has plans to release a premium version of the Galaxy S5, but the company has just been granted Bluetooth certification for that model and its Google Play Edition variant. The Bluetooth CIG for what is believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime can be here and is listed by its model number of SM-906L. The Galaxy S5 Prime is expected to have a premium metal body and a Quad-HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. The smartphone is intended to compete with LG's upcoming G3, which is also rumored to have a metal body, as well has the HTC One M8 and Apple's iPhone 5s and impending iPhone 6.

When it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition, the smartphone's Bluetooth SIG can be found here and its model number is listed as SM-900FG. The Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition is going to be the same Galaxy S5 currently available, except it will run stock Android. This means that Samsung's TouchWiz UI will not be installed or any other customizations the company offers on the standard Galaxy S5.

Bluetooth SIGS are usually a good sign that the device is close to launching. There have been rumors that the Galaxy S5 Prime could see an official announcement by Samsung sometime in June. Google could announce the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition at any time and most reports say it will happen very soon. We'll keep ya posted as new information becomes available.
