Mobile ordering and payment features continue to be a rising trend, with the popular sandwich chain Subway now joining the bandwagon. Subway announced on Thursday new updates to its mobile app and website that will include more mobile payment options, as well as the ability to order on-the-go.

Subway previously rolled out a mobile payment option created by Paydiant, a company acquired by PayPal a few months back. However, details about the mobile payment service were kept on the down-low as the company continued to test it and train its employees.

Subway announced that it will add PayPal to its list of payment options later this year to join Apple Pay and Android mobile payments to its in-store checkout.

"We look forward to introducing PayPal to our future list of payment options," Ken Moy, Subway's Director of Global Payments and Emerging Commerce said in a press release. "This collaboration will make it quicker and simpler for the 169 million active, global PayPal customers to enjoy a great Subway meal at our more than 27,000 locations in the U.S."

Subway app users will also be able to use PayPal's OneTouch mobile checkout as a payment option, a feature that allows customers to pay on their mobile devices with just one touch —eliminating the need to enter their login information each time.

"As part of our continued commitment to improve, we knew that offering online and mobile tools to our busy customers was critical to ensuring they cannot only eat fresh, but fast," said Carman Wenkoff, Chief Information Officer for Subway. "We are excited to launch our new ordering platforms and will continue to look for new ways to improve the Subway experience."

Along with added the PayPal mobile payment capability, customers can also order their sandwiches on-the-go or online at order.subway.com. Customers can choose the nearest restaurant location, customize their sandwich, checkout with the mobile payment options and pick up their food at the restaurant.

The PayPal updates app is expected later this year.
