A code hidden in Apple's OS X El Capitan suggests that the company is preparing for a new 21.5-inch 4K Retina iMac.

Apple launched the 27-inch iMac that has a 5K Retina display in October 2014. However, the company did not make changes to the 21.5-inch iMac, which still sports a regular LED display.

The 27-inch iMac is definitely impressive and appeals to many desktop owners; however, the price of the iMac is quite steep that deters customers from the computer. At launch, the 27-inch model had a premium price tag of $2,499, which has now been reduced to $1,999. Even at the reduced price the 27-inch iMac is still quite expensive.

Customers will welcome a 21.5-inch iMac with a Retina display but Apple remains silent about the rumor. Consomac, a French website, discovered a few images in the new El Capitan beta that give some glimpses of the next-generation iMacs. A couple of these images show a 5K iMac, which means that the screen of the 27-inch iMac may not change but other specs may be updated.

The third image reflects at a 21.5-inch iMac that has a Retina display. The new iMac has a native resolution of 4,096 x 2,304 in comparison with the 1,920 x 1,080 display found in the existing 21.5-inch iMac. The new display resolution means that users will be able to view 4K video.

The existing 21.5-inch iMac has a starting price tag of $1,099. The rumored Retina display version of the iMac may be slightly expensive but a lot cheaper than the 27-inch model.

iPhone and iPad devices are big launches for Apple and are highly-anticipated in the tech industry. However, there are many tech enthusiasts who will also wait for the next-gen iMac. While Apple has not yet announced a launch date for the 21.5-inch iMac some experts believe that the computer may be launched in October or November this year.
