Amazon is having some neat discounts on unlocked smartphones, offering popular the Samsung Galaxy S6, Nexus 6 or Moto X (2nd Gen) for 40 percent off.

Popular smartphones typically come with a price to match, especially if they come with high-end specs and features. Purchasing such smartphones unlocked entails quite a hefty investment, but once in a while various retailers run attractive promotions and offer neat discounts.

The latest Amazon deal related to unlocked smartphones now allows interested shoppers to make significant savings on high-end devices, including the latest flagships from Samsung and Google.

The Samsung Galaxy S6, for instance, normally sells for $899 unlocked, with 32GB of internal storage space, but Amazon is now offering the device for just $549.99. This marks a heavy price cut of $349.01, or 39 percent off the regular retail price.

Launched earlier this year as the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S6 boasts top-notch specs and features all around. The handset sports a 5.1-inch QHD display with a high resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels, an in-house 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 16-GB rear camera, a 5-megapixel selfie cam, a 2,550 mAh non-removable battery and a fingerprint sensor, among the highlights. Moreover, the Galaxy S6 also rocks a new design, ditching the plastic build of its predecessors for a more premium metal and glass build. It's worth pointing out, however, that the Samsung Galaxy S6 has no microSD support for additional storage.

The Motorola-made Nexus 6, meanwhile, comes at the top-end segment of the smartphone market as well, and launched as the very first phablet in Google's Nexus lineup. The device rocks a massive 6-inch screen with a QHD resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels and packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, clocked at 2.7GHz and coupled with 3GB of RAM. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter and a 3,220 mAh non-removable battery. MicroSD support is not in the mix for this smartphone either.

Amazon normally sells the unlocked Nexus 6 with 32GB of internal storage capacity for a hefty $859.99, but it's now offering the device for just $481.76, marking a $378.23 price cut.

Lastly, the Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) comes with good specifications and a more affordable price tag compared to the Galaxy S6 and the Nexus 6, and Amazon's new discount now makes it even cheaper.

As a reminder, the second-generation Moto X features a 5.2-inch display with a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), while under the hood it packs a Motorola Mobile Computing System consisting of a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with quad-core CPU (MSM 8974-AC) and Adreno 330 graphics, Natural Language Processor and Contextual Computing Processor. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,300 mAh battery.

Amazon normally sells the 16GB Moto X (2nd Generation) for $499.99 unlocked, but is now offering the device for $299.99, marking a notable $200 price cut.

It remains unclear for now just when Amazon will return to its normal pricing for the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6, Moto X (2nd Gen) and Google Nexus 6, but the deal may not last for long so interested customers might want to take advantage of it while it lasts.
