The Google Chromebook has been making its mark within the education sector. However, the release of the Dell Chromebook 13 signlas that Google is also looking to have the Chromebook break into the corporate world, which is currently dominated by Windows-powered systems.

Google unveiled the Dell Chromebook 13 as a significant improvement on lower-cost Chromebooks. However, previously released Chromebooks such as the Asus-developed Chromebook Flip and the high-end Chromebook Pixel are also very capable of functioning as business-focused laptops.

All three Chromebooks utilize Chrome OS, the operating system developed by Google that was designed to be very lightweight and to rely mostly on apps and services that are Internet-based. This would mean that Chromebook s would require less onboard storage compared to laptops powered by other operating systems. The trade-off, however, is that Chromebooks need to be connected to the Internet so that their full potential can be realized.

With corporate usage in mind, which one among the three Chromebooks is the best choice to purchase? A quick comparison should hold the answer.

Screen

The Dell Chromebook 13 features a 13-inch display that can come wither as a regular screen or as a touchscreen. The screen also comes with IPS technology and Gorilla Glass technology for protection.

The Chromebook Flip, meanwhile, has a smaller 10.1-inch WXGA screen and a 10-point multi-touch display. The screen of the Chromebook Pixel is the same size as the Dell Chromebook 13 with a 13-inch touchscreen display with an amazing 2,560 x 1,700 pixel resolution.

Processor

The Dell Chromebook 13 comes with either an Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processor with up to 8GB of RAM, compared to the Chromebook Flip that packs a quad-core Rockchip processor with up to 4GB of RAM and the Chrome Pixel that comes with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with up to 16GB of RAM.

Price

The price of the Dell Chromebook 13 ranges from $400 to $900, while the Chromebook Flip has a price range of $249 to $279 and the Chromebook Pixel has a price range of $1,299 to $1,449.

Verdict

The novelty of the Chromebook Pixel to transform into a tablet for presentations and the massive power of the Chromebook Pixel are major selling points, but the corporate-targeted Dell Chromebook 13 features a better balance of powerful specifications and reasonable price that could attract businesses to migrate from Windows to Chromebooks.
