The Google Play Store is not the only Android app store in town. Amazon has its own Appstore too, and the e-commerce website branching out into mobile software wants more people to use the Amazon Appstore.

The latest in Amazon's efforts to promote the Appstore is a limited-time promo giving away a total of 39 premium Android apps for free. All in all, the apps are worth more than $90, but from Thursday, Aug. 13, through Saturday, Aug. 15, Amazon is making all these apps for free.

What is the catch? Will this new promo be like the huge dud that was Prime Day? Will the apps work only on devices running on Amazon's Fire OS?

There is, in fact, no catch at all. The apps available for free right now will work on any device running on Android, and many of the apps have been given high ratings by reviewers and users. Sure, everybody will not want to download every app that is free right now, but everyone can probably use a few apps they can get for free right now instead of paying for it later.

One of the most useful apps available is AVG AntiVirus PRO, which has a regular price of $11.99. Users can also download PrintHand Mobile Print Premium, originally available for $9.95. This is a niche app but is quite useful for people who need to print a lot of documents while working on the go. Another useful tool is Docs To Go Premium Key, a productivity app that serves as an alternative to Microsoft Office apps for Android to open, view and edit MS Office files.

There are also a few good photography apps, such as Elements of Photography Pro, which offers a high-quality photography course for people who want to take up the camera. It is rated very highly in the Appstore, and many people say it is one of the best photography courses available. Photo Lab PRO, a photo editor is normally available for $2.99, is also free right now.

And for those who just want to entertain themselves with their phones, Amazon is also offering a host of premium mobile games, including Goat Simulator, Fruit Ninja, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ultimate Hangman HD and Call of Atlantis.

Check out the entire list of free apps and games available from the Amazon Appstore right now.
