On Sept. 7, drone maker DJI will be upgrading its Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 autonomous vehicles with autonomous flight modes.

The lower-end Phantom 3 Standard is getting waypoint navigation, which lets the user set up a path based on points, or sets of coordinates, while controlling the device's camera.

The quadcopter is also getting point of interest, which sets up an autonomous circular path around an object and Follow Me, which follows the user's own movements.

The larger Inspire 1 drone will be getting all of the above functions, save for Follow Me, when the firmware upgrades roll out next week. You can check out our recent look at that device from the show floor at IFA.
