Once upon a time, a game developer named Double Helix was working on a Justice League video game. However, Double Helix, which has no major successes in its portfolio, didn't get very far before the plug was pulled.

Justice League was to be a fighting game envisioned as a companion to George Miller's planned Justice League movie. The game was canceled around the same time that the movie was, but not before some nifty concept art was crafted by artist Stephen G. Wells. ComicBook.com dug up some of that concept art online, and we've embedded some of the most interesting images below.

Wells created 3D character designs for the doomed game, including a wide array of DC Comics characters. Might these designs have any similarities to their counterparts in the planned film? We have no idea. Regardless they sure are cool to look at. Over on Wells' website, you'll find his ideas for heroes like Batman, Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. However, he appears to have devoted more time to his work on villains such as Sinestro, General Zod, Bane, Solomon Grundy, Killer Croc and more. Even the Bizarro League gets involved, with art for Bizarro himself and Batzarro, too.

Take a look.

Don't feel too bad for the various parties involved in that canceled game, by the way. Miller went on to enjoy huge success with this year's Mad Max: Fury Road. Double Helix was acquired by Amazon Game Studios in 2014. Stephen Wells stays busy creating work for video games like Dust, World of Warcraft, Gears of War and many more. Also, the Justice League got an excellent fighting game the very next year in the form of Injustice: Gods Among Us from NetherRealm Studios.
