When photos first emerged of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, fans' opinions of her costume seemed varied: some loved it, some hated it and others just didn't care.

The more important opinions about Harley's look in Suicide Squad come from the two individuals who created her 23 years ago.

When Harley first appeared, it was in an episode of Batman: The Animated Series, titled "Joker's Favor." Her look was the one we're most familiar with: the one-piece long-sleeved black-and-white costume with the matching jester's hat. Like all villains, Harley even wore a mask, to hide her clown-white face from public view.

Harley's look in Suicide Squad is a far cry from that — but it still pays homage to various versions of the character throughout the years (including her most recent look in the DC's Suicide Squad comics).

But what do her creators think about the new costume? Bruce Timm already commented on it; however, Paul Dini, who created the character with Timm, dove into the subject even more.

"I know it's jarring to a lot of the people who love the classic Bruce Timm suit, I love it myself. But in that world [of the Suicide Squad movie], I just don't see it happening," Dini said to the Shanlian On Batman podcast on Thursday (transcribed by Forbes). "It's a rougher, more street look. I think it works fine."

Dini also commented on Jared Leto's version of The Joker and seemed to understand where the film plans on going with the relationship between Harley and him, comparing the couple to punk rock icons Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen.

"There's a little bit of Sid and Nancy to the Joker and Harley look, which I always felt would not be a bad look if they were in a live-action movie," he said. "If you put them in that realistic world, I feel they would look like down-and-out rockers. They would look dangerous."

Suicide Squad opens in theaters next year.
