As with every new iPhone, Apple is preparing the latest version of its mobile operating system for launch. Of course, iOS 9 features a host of updates and changes that are designed to make the iPhone experience better: smaller memory requirements, faster speeds ... it's all a part of the typical iOS upgrade (along with a few bigger updates, but more on that later).

What's more surprising about the update is that Apple isn't wasting any time in getting iOS 9 into everyone's hands: the latest version of the company's mobile operating system will be available for download on Sept. 16. That's right, you'll be able to update your phone to the latest iOS next week.

Don't worry, you won't have to buy a new phone in order to grab iOS 9 – Apple has confirmed that any device running iOS 8 will be able to download and run the new operating system on launch day. Granted, there are plenty of reasons to upgrade to the new phone, but it's not required.

On a basic level, iOS 9's built-in apps are getting a serious upgrade: apps like News, Maps and Notes are all receiving a wealth of updates, from speed boosts to improved usability. Improved versions of both Apple Pay and app multitasking are also coming to iOS 9, meaning that you'll be able to get a lot more done in a lot less time.

Most of the other updates are relatively rudimentary (such as the previously mentioned boosts in speed), but for anyone jumping to new hardware, there are few big updates to look forward to. 3D Touch and the new A9 microchip are the iPhone 6S' biggest upgrades, and the iCloud will finally allow users to expand their available storage (for a small price, as seen below).

While iOS 9 might not be revolutionizing Apple's mobile experience, it should come as a great upgrade for anyone who found iOS 8 to be lacking in notable upgrades. Plus, there's almost no wait for those looking to upgrade right away – iOS 9 is set for release on Sept. 16.
