Nissan, which calls itself the world's leader in electric car sales, is introducing the hotly anticipated 2016 Nissan Leaf which touts to offer an amazing 107-mile range with a 30kWh battery. The company claims it is 27 percent larger than the earlier 24kWh battery that powered its Leafs.

The company revealed in a blog post shared over its website the price tag of its new 2016 Nissan Leaf starts at $26,700 (after the federal tax credit of $7,500) for its SV model and $29,290 for its Leaf SL version (after the federal tax credit). Meanwhile, its Leaf S model remains to showcase 24kWh battery which has a projected range of 84 miles, the blog says.

"Since Nissan Leaf launched in December 2010, we've become the global leaders in electric vehicle (EV) sales with an all-electric car specifically designed for the mass market," Andrew Speaker, director of the Nissan Electric Vehicle (EV) Sales & Marketing, stated. "We know that to maintain that leadership, we must continue developing battery technology that strikes that ideal balance between capacity, packaging, durability and affordability."

According to the company, all models of the Leaf boast of an 80kW AC synchronous engine that touts to provide 107 horsepower as well as 187 lb-ft of torque, giving the driver of the car an incredible experience.

Interestingly, the Nissan Leaf does not have a tailpipe. This does mean, according to the company, that the car will not emit greenhouse gases.

It is reported that the new Leaf battery the company offers comes in an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

To sweeten the offer, the 2016 model is also built with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an all new user interface as well as added functions. Additionally, the company is throwing in a smartphone app which it calls the NissanConnect EV, replacing its old CarWings system.

Based on reports, customers should expect a charging map, informing the car owner the location of charging points available, as an added feature to the 2016 model. It will likewise notify the driver if the charging points are occupied.

Other remarkable features to the new Leaf are as follows: HD radio; Nissan Voice Recognition; and the SiriusXM Travel Link, another feature which can inform the driver fuel prices, weather conditions, stock info, movie listings, and more.
