The week started on the wrong foot for Twitter.com. The popular microblogging platform suffered an outage for almost an hour that affected users from Europe as well as large parts of Canada and North America.

At 11:22 a.m. Pacific time, when users of the service logged in, they were prompted with an error message that read "Something is technically wrong". Only the desktop version was affected while mobile version of the app kept running smoothly.

According to spokeswoman Lauren Jones, the issue was resolved and the site was back up at 12:16 p.m. Pacific Time. No information on the cause of the outage has been made available.

After the fixing, users amused themselves tweeting ironic messages about the outage, on Twitter. Competition platforms, such as Facebook and Ello, were mentioned in the tweets.

The latest downtime happens following previous interruptions on Aug. 31 and Aug. 28 and lasted under an hour.

Twitter outages are relatively rare but one could not help but ask if the issue of Twitter lacking a permanent CEO, with Jack Dorsey (@jack) acting as interim, might be considered as one possible factor.

Major Twitter investor, Chris Sacca, has urged the board of directors to name Dorsey as CEO and put the company back on a competitive position. Sacca's advices have not yet been followed and voices from Twittter executives declaring that Dorsey's position as CEO of mobile payment firm Square could hinder his performance as possible Twitter leader still buzz loudly.
