It looks like all those rumors of HTC building a Nexus tablet were true. Images of the Google Nexus 9 have leaked ahead of Google I/O.

Google introduced its first tablet in 2012 when it launched the Nexus 7. The tablet was extremely popular due to its use of high-end specs and a very affordable price. Since the tablet was a Nexus device, it also came with the guarantee of always receiving an update to the latest and greatest version of Android whenever Google releases it.

Google released an updated Nexus 7 in July 2013. The tablet was once again manufactured by Asus and Google, named Nexus 7 (2013 version). The tablet features a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 HD display and is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and 2GB of RAM. Google also added a rear camera to its latest Nexus 7 in the form of a 5-megapixel shooter and 1.3-megapixel front facing camera for video chat.

We've been following Google's next-generation Nexus tablet and it's believed that Google has partnered with HTC on the tablet. The slate was also said to sport an aluminum case for a more premium feel compared to the plastic Nexus 7. We now have a better idea of what Google's next-generation Nexus tablet will look and its specs.

Based on a new report, Google has been working on a new tablet that has been manufactured by HTC. The tablet has been codenamed 'Volantis' but has also been referred to as the Nexus 9. The tablet reportedly features an 8.9-inch 2048 x 1440 display with a pixel density of 281 pixels per inch (ppi). It's powered by a NVIDIA Logan Tegra K1 64-bit processor and 2GB of RAM. Google will offer the tablet in 2 storage configurations; 16GB and 32GB.

The Nexus 9's camera capabilities are said to include an 8-megapixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) and 3-megapixel front facing camera. The tablet will also have dual front-facing stereo speakers and an aluminum zero-gap construction with tapered sides, which sounds like HTC used some of the same design elements found in its flagship smartphone, HTC One M8.

The Nexus 9 will reportedly buck the trend of Google's Nexus devices being very affordable, the 16GB Nexus 9 will reportedly retail for $399 when it's released, making it more expensive than Apple's iPad mini with Retina display. The tablet is expected to launch in the near future.
