HTC has announced it will be holding a press event on Oct. 20. Images of the smartphone the company is widely expected to announce, the HTC One A9, have leaked ahead of the event.

Google just wound down its Nexus launch event, where the company officially took the wraps off of its latest and greatest Nexus smartphone and phablet. The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are now available for preorder through Google's online store and start at $379 and $499, respectively.

The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are the first devices to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Samsung has already confirmed that it will be releasing an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6, S6 Edge, Note 4, Note Edge and Galaxy Alpha.

It appears that HTC will be among the first Android smartphone manufacturers to actually ship a device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. That handset is expected to be the HTC A9 "Aero," which leaked in late August and has a design very reminiscent of Apple's iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus and 6s Plus.

HTC has just announced that it will be holding a press event on Oct. 20, and all signs point to the unveiling of the HTC One A9. New images of the HTC One A9 have also leaked online today, proving an up close and personal look at the upcoming smartphone.

The images match previously-leaked pictures showing an iPhone-like design and confirm the smartphone is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The HTC One A9 will reportedly feature a five-inch 1920 by 1080 AMOLED display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi), an octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor and 2 GB of RAM. The handset will include 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot, and its camera capabilities consist of a 13 megapixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) and 4 megapixel front-facing UltraPixel shooter.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new details regarding the HTC One A9 as they become available.
