A budget-friendly OnePlus X smartphone will reportedly launch this month at an attractive $249 price point, arriving as the company's third Android-powered handset.

OnePlus drew a lot of attention with its "flagship killer" smartphones, boasting high-end specs at a price tag much lower than other flagship devices. The company recently launched its OnePlus 2 as its latest flagship, and is reportedly gearing up to unleash another handset, dubbed the OnePlus X, in the following weeks.

Leaks surrounding this purported OnePlus X have already started to intensify as of late and the latest one further boosts excitement ahead of the big launch. Citing "factory sources," Gizmochina reports that the OnePlus X will arrive in October, offering a more modest experience compared to the OnePlus 2, but also at a lower price point.

For a $249 price tag, the OnePlus X will reportedly offer a 5-inch display (unspecified resolution), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a fingerprint scanner and a dual rear camera setup, among the highlights. At the same time, the OnePlus X will reportedly sport a new design as well.

"OnePlus is said to have redesigned the new OnePlus X to make it a bit more beautiful in appearance," reports Gizmochina, adding that the OnePlus 2's design did not suit everyone's taste.

The renders showing the purported OnePlus X do portray a smartphone that looks more premium than the OnePlus 2, especially with that neat dual camera setup and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

"While we are not sure whether the above renders will be used as the final design, our sources confirm that the upcoming OnePlus X will feature a new design," further notes the report.

No other spec details are available at this point, so it remains to be seen what other treats the OnePlus X will have to offer for that $249 price tag. If it offers powerful cameras, a large battery, sufficient storage and a decent resolution, the OnePlus X could turn out to be a top-notch budget handset, competing with the likes of Motorola's Moto G.

On the other hand, OnePlus doesn't exactly make it easy for interested customers to buy its handsets since it sells the smartphones through an invite-only system. Only the original OnePlus One ditched the infamous invite system, but it did so after one year on the market. The OnePlus 2 still requires invitations, and the OnePlus X will likely pull the same scheme.

It's all in the rumor state at this point, but if the OnePlus X is indeed set to launch in October, more information should come to light soon enough. In the meantime, take all leaks with a grain of salt.
