Motorola has officially announced which of its smartphones will receive an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The list includes most Motorola 2015 models, but excludes the 2014 Verizon and AT&T second-gen versions of the Moto X along with some older models.

It appears that smartphone makers are taking the guessing game out of which models will receive the latest Android OS upgrade by making official announcements ahead of release. Both Google and Samsung have officially announced which of their smartphones will be receiving the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with Google's confirmed Nexus devices set to receive the update imminently.

Now Motorola has followed suit by announcing which of its smartphones will be receiving an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, and while the inclusions contain no real surprises, two relatively recent Motorola flagships won't be joining the party.

All of Motorola's 2015 Moto X models are set to receive the update, including the Moto X Pure Edition, the Moto X Style, the Moto X Play, and the Moto G (3rd gen). When it comes to last year's models, a range of smartphones made the cut, among them, the Motorola DROID Turbo, the Moto MAXX, the Moto X (2nd gen) in Latin America, Europe, and Asia, and the 2nd gen Moto G and Moto G LTE.

While the 2014 Pure edition made the cut, unfortunately neither the AT&T or Verizon 2nd gen Moto X will be invited to the Marshmallow party, much to the chagrin of owners of those devices. A Motorola forum manager confirmed the exclusion in a recent post. The original Moto G and Moto X won't receive the update either, nor will any of the company's Moto E devices.

The full list of Motorola devices set to receive an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is as follows: 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen), 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen), 2015 Moto X Play, the 2015 Moto G (3rd gen), 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (2nd gen), 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia2 (2nd gen), 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (2nd gen), DROID Turbo, 2014 Moto MAXX, 2014 Moto Turbo, and the Nexus 6, which, as a Google branded device is set to receive the update imminently along with the other announced Nexus devices.

Motorola has not given any information on the timing of the release of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to any of the smartphones listed.
