Motorola has released a list of devices which are expected to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update. However, the company's Moto E 2015 is notably missing from the list, raising concerns that the latest handset will not receive the update despite Motorola claiming otherwise during the product launch.

The second-gen Moto E was announced in February this year and at the time of its launch, Motorola's marketing demo video asserted that the smartphone would support software upgrades.

"And while other smartphones in this category don't always support upgrades, we won't forget about you, and we'll make sure your Moto E stays up to date after you buy it," noted Magno Herran, Moto E's marketing manager on Feb. 25 in the demo video.

However, the Moto E 2015 is not included the list of devices set to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which Motorola published on Friday, Oct. 2.

The Moto E 2015 has been around for a little over 200 days and its absence on the list has pretty much ends the device's chances of getting the upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. With the Moto E 2015 not getting updated to the latest Android Marshmallow OS set to release within the week, the smartphone will have the notorious distinction of becoming the shortest OS-supported Motorola product in recent times.

Considering Motorola made tall claims of support for the Moto E 2015 at launch, users of the device will undoubtedly feel cheated. This makes one wonder if it was all merely a marketing ploy to lure consumers.

If we were to give the company the benefit of the doubt, then a possibility exists that Motorola published an incorrect list where it accidentally failed to include the Moto E 2015.

However, this seems unlikely as Android Police's sources have confirmed that two other Motorola models missing from the list - the Moto X 2014 from AT&T and Verizon Wireless - will not be getting updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Moreover, the publication also shared a disclaimer from Motorola at the time of Moto E 2015's launch asserting that "The device will receive at least one software upgrade to the current Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system."

The Moto E 2015 was upgraded from Android 5.0 to Android 5.1, and per the fine print on the Moto E 2015's marketing material, Motorola technically did not break its promise.
